What Happens Immediately After Having a C-section?

During the first 24 hours, a liquid diet will be advised. Keep any food light due to the nauseating after effect of medication. Vomiting can occur and is normal. Many doctors can offer a medication to help reduce this side effect of surgery.

Your nurse will soon remove the catheter and ask you to sit up with your feet on the floor. Moving is good, but may be uncomfortable. Follow your doctors orders and nurses instructions. Do not overdo it, the hospital is for recovery.

Your nurse or doctor will check your new incision daily to ensure proper healing and for signs of infection.

After having a  c-section, recovery is very different than that of a vaginal birth. Take it slow in order to heal properly. Typically 3-4 days later you will be released with your newborn.
