Put Yourself on the Newborn Sleep Schedule

You’ve heard over and over again that new parents get virtually no sleep, so you’re prepared for the worst. You know you’ll be waking up every morning at 3AM to feed the baby and splitting late-night duties with your husband so at least one of you can be alert at work the next day. But how much do you really know about how newborns sleep?

Your friends aren’t wrong when they tell you being a new parent is exhausting, but it’s a common misconception that newborns don’t sleep. In fact, they sleep a lot – as much as 14 hours a day! So why aren’t you getting more shuteye? Because the hours of sleep aren’t consecutive. Newborns sleep one or two hours here, another two there and spend the time in between gurgling, wiggling and crying.
