Health Alert: The Importance Preparing your Body for Labor

Perineal Massage

Perineal massage can help prevent tearing during delivery. Before doing this, wash your hands thoroughly. Apply a small amount of lubricating jelly to your fingertips. Place your fingers inside your vagina and push towards your rectum. If you notice any sharp pains, stop the massage immediately. Gently massage the area for a few minutes per day. Before doing perineal massage or any exercises during pregnancy, consult your OB/GYN to make sure it is OK.
