Pregnancy Yoga Precautions
While pregnancy yoga is safe, there are certain movements that should be avoided. The woman should not lie on her back for more than a couple of minutes at a time because the blood supply between the legs and the heart could be cut off.
Any position that requires inversion, such as shoulder and head stands, should not be done during pregnancy along with bend and twist poses that require stretching of the abdominal muscles. This can cause muscles to strain and tear because connective tissue is so loose.
Expectant mothers can find pregnancy yoga classes by searching online or getting a referral from their doctor. It is best to find classes with instructors who are experienced with the needs of pregnant women and will look out for their safety during the poses.
