Pregnancy Nutrition: Eating Right at Work is Possible

To save money, however, you may want to pack your lunch. Eating right at work is often easier when you bring your own food. Here are a few ideas for healthy foods to pack in your lunchbox:

  • Since you probably don’t want to make a sandwich with deli meat (due to the risk of listeria contamination), why not bring a hardboiled egg for lunch? Eggs are high in protein, which will give you more energy and fill you up. You can also make an egg sandwich on whole grain bread.
  • Bring a pita pocket stuffed with grilled chicken breasts (leftover from last night’s dinner) and vegetables, such as lettuce, cucumber, and tomato.
  • Pack a delicious salad that uses a combination of lettuce, spinach and other greens. You may want to throw in some cucumber slices, chopped tomatoes, almond slices, and perhaps even a few bites of broccoli. Add shredded hard cheese on top for a good dose of dairy.
  • For dessert, why not eat an apple or an orange? You may also want to pack along a tub of chopped up fruit pieces.

When you’re trying to eat right at work, make sure that you avoid potato chips and other greasy or fattening foods. Eating right at work should include snacks that are chock full of nutrients and vitamins. Fresh fruit and dry cereal are wonderful snack ideas for pregnant women.
