The Very First Baby Registry
I remember walking down the aisle of the baby super store with my husband as we were making our very first baby registry. I skipped right past the baby-proofing aisle and my husband thought I was crazy! The most important baby-proofing advice I’ve heard comes from him – get it done early and do it right the first time.
As a pregnant mom-to-be, getting our house ready for a baby who wasn’t even here yet or even walking for another year seemed absurd to me, but my husband insisted we put baby-proofing items on our registry. Now, it’s a rare occasion when he is actually right about something, but I’ll give him credit for this one. Even in a home where your baby isn’t moving around yet, it is a good idea to stock up on the items you’ll need and get the ball rolling on having everything installed before your baby is mobile.
The Baby Proofing Tips
The Most Important Baby-Proofing Advice (from our house to yours):
– Know your skills – Are you or your partner handy? If not, baby proofing isn’t going to be as easy as you’d like. If you don’t know a screwdriver from a pair of pliers it’s best to enlist the help of a handy friend or family member. The last thing you want is for something to be installed incorrectly which would defeat the purpose.
– Don’t cut corners – Skimp on the baby clothes, not the safety items. Cheap things are made…cheaply and it’s totally worth it to buy what will work best for you. You’ll thank me for this!
