You can’t avoid it any longer. It is time to ponder and set your New Year’s resolutions.
According to a 2007 survey, however, 88 percent of all resolutions end in failure. So, what do moms have to say about achieving their mom-o-lutions for the New Year? Is it possible?
“I think many moms don’t keep their New Year’s resolutions because they tend to put themselves last. Moms think they’re being selfish if they take time for themselves. Family, home, and work responsibilities tend to supersede personal goals,” says Alysia George, a busy mom of four.
Her tip: Visualization. “I don’t do this often enough, but simply spending a few minutes writing down the idea of my realized dreams and goals helps me to have a clearer picture of how to reach them,” Alysia says.
New mom Christie Froom suggests taking baby steps toward your New Year’s resolutions.
“Slow and steady always wins the rice,” Christie says. “It takes 30 days for something to be a habit. I have actually started some of my resolutions now. On January 1, I already want it to become a habit.”
Stay-at-home mom Carolyn West agrees. “I think the mistake people have is limiting themselves to one year to change their behavior, life or financial situation. And a year just isn’t very long. I think as long as you are still heading in the right direction, it’s OK to have the same resolutions.”

Lose Weight
Year after year, losing weight and getting in shape is one of the most popular resolutions. Moms everywhere desperately want to shed the extra baby weight, not to mention the excess pounds from holiday indulgences.
For Christie, weight issues have been a lifelong struggle, but she’s determined to change in 2012.
“I have been overweight most of my life. I lost a lot of weight when I went to college and for my wedding. I gained the weight back because I just love food. I know how to lose it and how to keep it off, but I just lack self-control when it comes to food,” Christie explains.
The new mom gained 45 pounds during her pregnancy, and she still has baby weight she hopes to shed in the coming year.
“[This year] I am determined to keep [the pounds] off for my health and my family’s health,” Christie says. “I’m 27 years old, and I need to change the way I eat now so that I can have a long and healthy life with my family.”
