Mom Talk: New Year’s Resolutions to Stick With

Alysia has a related goal. One of her New Year’s resolutions is to commit to an exercise routine.

“I feel better, both physically and mentally, when I exercise regularly. I just need to make it a permanent habit in my life. My problem is that I have no trouble coming up with excuses!” says Alysia. “I know from experience the best way to do this is just do it. Once it becomes a habit, I won’t feel quite right without a workout.”

New Year's Resolutions

In 2012, Alysia plans to set aside time each day to make exercise a habit. She does agree that it won’t be necessarily easy, but she hopes to make her fitness goal a reality.

Do More “Fun” Things with Kids

Carolyn, a mom of three girls, has weight loss and fitness goals like other moms, but she also has a unique mom-o-lution for the New Year. She wants to make a commitment to doing more “fun” things with her kids.

As a stay-at-home mom, Carolyn is with her children every moment they’re home. The problem is they generally do household activities together, such as homework, cleaning and cooking.

“The girls always tell me that they never get to do anything fun. Fun for them usually ends up costing us an arm and a leg, and we can’t just run off to Disneyland all the time,” Carolyn explains. “I really want to make more of an effort to find fun things to do that don’t cost a lot. Spending time with their parents is what I most want them to remember as they get older. I have to do a better job at making happy memories for them.”

Time Management & Better Organization Skills

All mothers ““ regardless of how many kids you have ““ are busy, so it’s not surprising that a New Year’s resolution for moms is to have better time management and organizational skills.

“Like all moms, I have a very busy life, and I just know that I could get more accomplished if I was more careful with my time. One thing in particular I plan on working on [in the next year] is to improve my ability to manage my time wisely,” explains Alysia.

Christie agrees. She says she needs better organization to help her stay on top of things, and she has a plan to achieve this New Year’s resolution.

“I plan on getting a corkboard for the kitchen. There, I will pin bills and important information that needs to get done fast,” Christie says.
