Although biting your baby’s nails may seem “safe”, it is not. Germs in your mouth will contaminate your babies hands and possibly infect any openings in the skin that you cannot see. Also hangnails left over from biting the nails may become infected and make your baby sick.
Do not be too tough on yourself if a speck of blood appears here or there. It may happen so just apply pressure until the bleeding stops. Just stay calm and try to finish as many fingers as possible. If your newborn wakes, finish later.
