Fetal Eye Development During Pregnancy

During the last seven months of pregnancy the eye continues to grow and mature, and the optic nerve is formed and connects the eye to the brain.

At birth a baby’s eye is about 75 percent of the size of an adult eye. All the more reason to take special care and attention about what a pregnant woman puts into her body. Harmful substance can interfere and cause damage to a fetus’s developing eye.

Halfway through your pregnancy your baby will start to open their eyes. They color or pigmentation is still not definite and may take until after birth to set in. While they can start to see, babies in the womb can not see much. Not until after birth will they even be close to seeing
