Can Disabled Women Get Pregnant?

Planning for Baby

Recovering from child birth, especially after a caesarean section, can be difficult for any woman.  Add in fatigue from not sleeping and it’s easy to see exactly why it is so important to plan in advance for your recovery period.

Will there be someone available to help you adjust to your new role as mom?  Are your house and baby care supplies set up for your convenience?  For example, a gorgeous antique crib with high sides is hardly practical if you sit in a wheelchair and can’t comfortably put the baby into it.

Are diapers, wipes and washcloths within reach?  What about extra supplies?  Even if you think that there’s no way that the baby will go through eight diapers before your husband gets home, you might want to grab a few extra now ““ babies are notorious for having diaper blowouts exactly when you are completely unprepared.

Above all, don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it; remember that being a mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world.  There are going to be days that you doubt yourself, and days where you feel like supermom.  For women without a disability and pregnant disabled women, both of those feelings and everything in between are completely normal!
