Answers Getting Pregnant After Miscarriage: FAQ’s

Current recommendations state that every woman see her ob/gyn before getting pregnant for a preconception counseling visit. This is an opportunity to discuss mom’s health and strategies for a healthy pregnancy. Diet, exercise, weight gain/loss and changes in lifestyle should be discussed during this visit.

Should I See the Doctor?
If you’ve had multiple pregnancy losses, it might be time to visit either your OB or a specialist in infertility, known as a reproductive endocrinologist. They will perform thorough diagnostic testing to look for the reason(s) which have caused your miscarriages and should be able to recommend a treatment regimen to correct it.

If you are one of the unlucky few who are diagnosed with unexplained infertility (about 20% of all infertile couples), they may suggest more invasive genetic testing to see if that gives more information. The doctor can also be more aggressive in managing and monitoring your early pregnancy.

Even though having a miscarriage can be profoundly tragic, getting pregnant afterwards is possible and even likely. It always recommended to consult with your doctor before thinking about getting pregnant after miscarriage.
