You will also likely receive a blood test either at your doctor’s office or you will be sent to an outside lab. The blood test will check levels of various hormones important in pregnancy and can even screen for abnormalities.
Last, but certainly not least, be prepared to sit with your doctor and ask a lot of questions. This is the time to ask it all, don’t hold back or be embarrassed. If need be, prepare a list before your first prenatal appointment so you don’t forget any questions. Even allow your partner to come along and join in on the conversation.
The first prenatal appointment will be one of many to come. Just remember to relax and be open. This is the person who will be caring for you and most likely delivering your baby. If the visit leaves you uneasy and/or the doctor was not as warm as you’d like, don’t feel defeated. Seek out another doctor. Finding what is right for your nine-month journey is key.
