French President now a Father
French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that he and wife Carla
Bruni-Sarkozy welcomed a healthy baby girl last Thursday, but kept most of the details private, Reuters reports.
All of you who are parents can understand the very deep joy that Carla and I feel,” Sarkozy said to the crowd. “Each one of you can also understand that it’s an even deeper joy because it is private. We have been lucky to have a very happy event take place. I will just keep to these few brief words to say to you that they are doing very well.”
Sarkozy’s announcement was in line with the couple’s hush-hush attitude about the baby throughout Bruni’s pregnancy. Despite the world’s interest in the first baby ever born to a French presidential couple while in office, Sarkozy’s office has been silent.
Bruni-Sarkozy later announced that on her website that she and Sarkozy had named their daughter Giulia, and thanked fans for their support and well-wishes.
