Your preemie may also experience an eye condition called nystagmus ““ which is characterized by involuntary, repetitive, back and forth movements. The eyes may drift slowly one way, and then “jump” back the opposite direction. These movements can be horizontal, diagonal or rotational. If you notice nystagmus in your premature baby, contact an eye doctor right away for an exam.
