Even though many babies are content to just relax with mom on the couch and may even fuss at tummy time (my son hated it and would scream within three minutes of being put on the floor), it’s important to get even those three minutes in periodically during the day.

Keep in mind that kids develop at different rates, so if your child isn’t meeting all of these milestones on the day that he turns three or six months old, there’s no need to panic. Don’t forget that it can take some time for kids to learn new skills. So it’s very normal for a child to pass an object between their hands only once or twice, for example, before they begin to do it regularly. Keep track of your child’s accomplishments and have the records with you when you speak with the doctor.

There are many reasons why a baby may not reach his developmental milestones on time. It may be as simple as instituting some minor changes in baby’s routine, but in the event that something more serious is going on, intervening early is definitely better.
