Will Going on this Diet Help Me Conceive Faster?

Whether you’re thinking about getting pregnant, or you’re in the throes of trying to conceive, you may be wondering, “Is there such a thing as a fertility diet?” and “Will going on this diet help me conceive faster?” According to an eight-year research study, there is indeed a “fertility diet.”

The Nurses’ Health Study II ““ which was a landmark eight-year study that followed nearly 18,000 married women, ages 25 to 42 years old, who were trying to become pregnant or were pregnant ““ found a strong correlation between diet, exercise habits, the woman’s weight, and a successful pregnancy. The women who were more likely to get pregnant faster (the ones with the lowest risk of ovulation-related infertility) were the ones who exercised at least 30 minutes each day and they had a body mass index of between 20 and 24.9 (which is in the normal weight range). The diets of these women were also examined. The ratio of monounsaturated fats to trans fats in these women’s diet was at least 10 percent; animal protein comprised of less than 10 percent of the women’s calories; vegetable protein comprised of over 7 percent of their total calories; they had a high iron intake (over 40 milligrams); and they had a low glycemic load. Interestingly, these women ate less than one serving of low-fat dairy each week, but they consumed one or more servings of high-fat dairy. In addition, these women consumed multivitamins on a daily basis.
