Giving Up the Foods You Love
During pregnancy, women are forced to give up a lot of things that they may have previously enjoyed. While it’s relatively easy to stay away from harmful items with an unborn baby inside of you, it can be extremely difficult to continuously keep that distance once the baby is born. Mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies are truly making a commitment to follow the ultimate dieting plan and should be ready to face the task of avoiding some commonly consumed items. After all, you are what you eat and your body is creating food for your child!
New moms often feel tired and overwhelmed, but drinking a cup of coffee is likely to add to that stress instead of taking away from it. Because your baby is eating the same things that you are, one cup of strong coffee can cause you to lose sleep and might keep the both of you up throughout the night. For a restful night, avoid other items that contain natural caffeine ingredients, like chocolate, until the end of the breastfeeding period.
Though a diet of completely bland foods isn’t necessary, nursing moms should carefully select the items they use to season their meals. Just like adults, babies are often extremely picky about the spices that they like and the ones that they don’t, so using the pepper shaker a little too often can contribute to a fussy feeding time experience.
