But there are also things that the eye does see. Before I had babies of my own, I had a conversation with my cousin about how she feels about her post baby body. Her biggest complaint was the departure of her formerly nice breasts. I had always thought that nursing a baby made them get bigger for good…no? On the contrary. She gave me the example of a brand new balloon. It’s all nice and cute until you blow it up really big (like your breasts when nursing). But when you let the air out, you’re left with a shriveled balloon that never looks quite the same as it did before it was blown up. Lovely…
Stretch Mark Mania
Also, lots of moms get stretch marks from not only her growing belly, but also the pregnancy-related weight gain to the other areas of her body. There are many factors contributing to why some women get them and some don’t. I have a friend who has them all over her stomach from the birth of her son and every summer she wears a bikini. She says it doesn’t bother her one bit. “I’m a mom. I know I’m a mom and this is what my body LOOKS like because of it. I’m proud of what I did,” she says. I think she’s got a great attitude.
And to put it into perspective: As moms we say we’d do anything for our children. Don’t you think a little wear and tear on our bodies is the least we can do?
