4) Raw or Undercooked Eggs ““ Eggs are part of a balanced diet, and you should consume cooked eggs whenever possible. However, raw or undercooked eggs are a food item to avoid during pregnancy. Raw eggs may contain the bacteria salmonella, which can lead to miscarriage or premature labor. Raw eggs can be found in many popular products, like homemade Caesar dressing, Hollandaise sauce, and eggnog. Always read the labels of the products you consume; make sure the eggs have been pasteurized.
5) Unpasteurized Dairy Products ““ When you’re pregnant, you must be careful about your dairy selection. Unpasteurized milk and soft cheeses should be avoided, since they can contain the harmful bacteria listeria. Imported soft cheeses (such as Feta, Brie, Gorgonzola, Camembert, and Roquefort) are sometimes made with unpasteurized milk. When buying cheese, always read the labels carefully and make sure the packaging clearly states the cheese is made with pasteurized milk.
Other food items to avoid during pregnancy include caffeine and alcohol. Some studies show that caffeine is OK in moderation, but it is often better to be safe than sorry.
