When Dream Feeding Makes Sleep a Dream…

That first night, I’ll admit that I missed him. While there were some downsides to having a nightly 9-10 p.m. feeding commitment (ie; not having that evening glass of wine), I enjoyed my time to stare at that sweet little face and snuggle the heck out of that little guy. However, when he slept that night for 10 hours straight, I began to warm up to the idea. By the end of the week, he was edging toward a 12-hour stretch ““ and has been ever since.

The doctor wasn’t positive that it was the dream feed, but guessed that perhaps it was rousing him so as to create the expectation to eat in the middle of the night, rather than to go back to sleep.

What is a dream feed?

Next time I see that doctor, my husband may need to restrain me from hugging him, genius that he is. I have no idea why the dream feed stopped working overnight after being such a perfect tool for so many weeks, but am still thankful it worked when and while it did.

I’ve learned to never say things with my little guy are going perfectly ““ it seems to be a jinx of sorts. So, instead, I’ll just say we don’t dream feed anymore and are no longer waking for three feedings a night.
