Does Your Baby Need Glasses?

Your Baby and Glasses

It is hard to tell if a baby needs glasses. Since babies do not speak and barely communicate their needs, it may take a closer observation by parents or caregivers.

During well visits and routine checkups, your pediatrician will observe you baby’s eyes to see if they are moving together. After birth it takes some time for a baby to get their eyes to look in the same direction. A doctor will be able to tell if there are issues after an exam. If the eyes are not working together, it may be a sign the optic nerve is not functioning properly.

Look for your child to start “noticing” things and tracking items like toys. A baby will even start to recognize your face after a few months. If this does not seem to be happening then, try to record any unusual eye movement or patterns to report at the next well visit.
