Should You Drink Caffeine when Trying to Conceive?
All the conflicting research studies can make it difficult for you to make up your mind. Should you give up your morning cup of coffee, so that you can more easily get pregnant? Do you have to give up coffee?
According to the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), a non-profit organization in the U.S. and Canada, it’s fine to drink low to moderate levels of caffeine. If you stay under 300 milligrams of coffee a day (less than 3 cups of coffee daily), this will not reduce your chance of getting pregnant.
The March of Dimes, a nonprofit group dedicated to healthy pregnancies, recommends that women who are trying to conceive consume less than 200 milligrams of caffeine each day.
The key is moderation. It’s always better to reduce how many cups of coffee you drink on a daily basis, and this is especially true if you’re trying to conceive.
