In Conclusion
No matter what age dog you choose, vets do agree that there are a few things you can do to make the transition of bringing home a new baby easier for your dog. Our vet told us that we should have our nursery set up and put large baby items (like a swing, bassinet, etc.) out where the dog can see them so he knows those things ““ and the baby that comes with them – are here to stay. I even had one friend tell me that she played YouTube videos of babies crying so her dog could get used to the sound.
For those couples that decide to wait until after their baby is born, there’s a possibility that they might be waiting a long time to get the dog of their dreams. I’d imagine that “puppy training” would be the last thing anybody would want to add to my new mommy to-do list.
No matter what you choose, remember that your pet is part of the family and when the time is right they are a wonderful companion for you and your children.
