These false labor pains start mid pregnancy or during the third trimester closer to your due date. Commonly referred to as false labor, Braxton Hicks are mistaken for labor pains. Ways to distinguish between false contractions and real labor pains is whether or not the contractions are regular, increase in strength and do not go away after moving around. Real labor contractions will increase in strength, get closer together and not stop.
Early Labor Cramps
While minor cramping during pregnancy is normal, severe cramping is not. Late in pregnancy (after 37 weeks), labor may start and feel like severe cramps. This is a good time to contact your health care professional and let them know what you are experiencing.
Anytime cramping during pregnancy occurs and causes worry, never hesitate to contact you obstetrician or midwife. A phone call takes just seconds and will ease your mind. Save your energy for preparing for baby and all the fun things that come along!
