And even though we currently use the travel system, perhaps the bit of stroller technology that revolutionized the way we push around babies are “infant seat carriers.” This is simply a folded cart that you can snap the infant carrier on to. I absolutely LOVED mine when I had an infant because it was so light and easy to use. Unlike a travel system, infant seat carriers will never be used as a stroller. It’s simply just a frame with wheels. Once the baby is out of the carrier you won’t use it anymore. It’s a great alternative to the travel system because it’s much more compact. Did I mention I LOVED mine?
Umbrella Stroller
Finally, there is the umbrella stroller. I don’t think that this kind of no-frills folded model is going to be anyone’s first choice in luxury baby travel, but they sure do fit the bill when you want something quick and easy. They weigh only a few pounds and they fold up literally like an umbrella so they’re very narrow and are great space-savers. Since they’re so inexpensive (they can be purchased for less than $20) we had them stashed in the trunks of both of our cars for times when we least expected needing a stroller..and there were a lot of those.
And one last tip from one mom to another. Pick a stroller with a drink holder or buy one for this purpose. From bottles to sippy cups to your own drinks, these are invaluable and save you from the possibility of pushing a stroller with one hand. One-handed stroller pushing is not fun, but makes for a good laugh from onlookers.
Regardless of what kind of strollers we choose, I doubt our little ones will know the difference. They’ll be happy just to get out and enjoy the fall air!
