Unlicensed Agency Adoption and Facilitator Adoptions
Adoptions through unlicensed agencies and facilitators pose the greatest emotional and financial risk to prospective parents as there is little supervision or policy oversight. A facilitator is any person who links birth mothers with prospective adoptive parents for a fee. Parents who adopt can often have no recourse should the adoption fall through. Some states do not allow adoptions through facilitators or unlicensed agencies.
No matter how you arrange the adoption of your newborn child it is imperative that you learn as much about your state’s adoption laws as possible. Try not to let your emotions overrule your common sense; think carefully before making any decisions and always protect yourself as much as possible: financially, legally and emotionally.
