A new heir is on the way for the Kennedy clan. Amy Petitgout, the wife of former U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy, announced she is pregnant with the couple's first child together.
According to The Associated Press, Kennedy, the son of the late Senator Edward Kennedy and subsequent nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, is thrilled with the news. He also said that the baby will arrive this spring and that the couple will wait until its arrival to find out if it is a boy or a girl.
The couple married this past July on the famous Kennedy compound in Cape Cod. Petitgout, a middle school teacher from New Jersey, already is a mom to a daughter from a previous marriage.
Since deciding not to seek re-election following an eight-term service, Kennedy is currently a visiting fellow at Brown University, where he has been campaigning to boost brain research. This cause is especially close to the former congressman, as his father died of brain cancer in 2009.
